Monday Morning Love Story : Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton.
Two people who were so desperately right and wrong for each other at the same time, Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor's love affair was condemned by the Vatican as "erotic vagrancy". Upon their return from Montreal where they were finally married in 1964 they were attacked by an angry mob who tore one of Elizabeth's earrings out and beat on Richard. Their torrid marriage lasted 10 years and after they remarried in 1976, 5 months; they were nevertheless in each other's lives until his death in 1984 through love letters that they mailed to each other regularly, the last of which she reportedly received 3 days after his death. That letter's existence and content has been the subject of much dispute and urban legend itself; in the book Furious Love, written by Sam Kashner and Nancy
Schoenberger it is said that " “In it, he told
me what he wanted. Home was where Elizabeth was, and he wanted to come home
[to me].” According to the authors, this letter – unseen by them – was so
cherished that it was buried with the actress after her death last March.
